Keeping up with the times..

Welcome to the shiny new Hillier and Co website! We’re so excited to finally have a space where we can share our expertise and keep you updated on what’s happening in the world of carpentry, decorating and general property maintenance. We’ll be sharing tips, tricks, and behind-the-scenes stories to help you make the most of your home.

To kick things off, let’s take a look back at some of the amazing projects completed over the past year. I’ve been busy transforming homes throughout the area and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been up to.

It was a chilly start to 2024 helping out my friends at Your Space Construction, to get this properties roof back on…

Fast forwarding to March, It wasn’t getting much warmer when Sarah and I flew out to Switzerland, to measure up for a guestroom conversion.

Back in the workshop, I had few more things to complete on a utility room I have been building. Then I turned my attention to planning a 1500 mile round trip to Switzerland.

The brief, to create a space that felt warm and inviting, perfect for relaxing after a day out in the Swiss mountains. Picture this - rich oak paneling on the walls, two comfy single beds dressed in the softest linen.

Back on home turf, with the English summer in full bloom, I took sometime to recoup with family.

Making the most of the long summer days, I was exited to complete some exterior repair work and painting, starting at one customers home and picking up some similar work for their neighbour.

Working in a beautiful location on the water, this floor repair was a standout project, sadly the damp-course had not been fitted correctly and the builders had not fitted any battens under the joist, so the floor insulation was falling down! A challenge none the less working in such a tight place, but we got the job done.

Some walls can simply be moved, this next one couldn’t, so we worked with a local structural engineer to calculate what beam and new wall would be required.

To finish up the year, I was back in the workshop designing some wardrobes, dresser, drawers, then onto making and spraying a in-frame sideboard with a oak dovetail drawer.

What a year 2024 turned out to be, these projects taught me so much and I can’t wait to put those skills to the test again. I’m curious to hear what you’d like to see me tackle next.

Any projects you may have in mind?, it would be awesome to work with you.
